drink the kool-aid

well, it is a little tough to muster the enthusiasm to commit my thoughts on this weekend's psu/youngstown state clash to virtual paper, but alas i soldier on. what's done is done, south bend is in the rear view mirror and the focus needs to be solely on the #4 ranked penguins (d-1aa at full d-1 prices!).

i would imagine that a little home cooking and a slight edge in personnel should aid the nits to a victory, but more importantly this team needs to show what kind of heart they have. joepa has likened them to his 82 national championship team that got blown out early by alabama and rallied to win it all, so it should be interesting to see who steps up. humbling loss and poor individual play by several key players should give us a clearer image of what lies ahead in 07.

i tell you, i have had a blue mustache on my upper lip from all the psu kool-aid i have been drinking for the better part of my life, but it is starting to taste a little funny. time to stop making excuses and rationalizations about what could or should be. this program is starting to look a lot more like a fringe player on the national scene (wvu every couple of years) and not the tradition rich, powerhouse that we all know them as. the road to redemption begins in state college this weekend, nits win 38-17.

There is always a bright side: Two years ago we would have been worried about a potential loss in this game (well, maybe not a loss, but it might have been close). But now we are just recovering from a little spanking by the Irish. A great season still lies ahead of this team - and a big bowl game. So I am happy and pleased to give a prediction of:

Nits: 42
Limp of the Penguins: 10

Lots of things happened after I left Butler. They changed the name of the conference from the MAAC to the Horizon. And, they added Youngstown State. I think that says it all, because last I checked, Butler's conference and teams were nothing like the big ten. So, the penguins, much like the antarctic icecap on which they live, will be destroyed.
PSU: 41
YSU: 14

I don't know what to think anymore. I thought we were a playmaker or two away back in 2004, looked like that was the right assumption in 2005, but now in '06, I'm wondering again if there aren't other problems on the horizon. But, maybe that's just my way of coping with that beat down we took in God's Land.
Regardless, we beat down this team in preparation for the Bucks. Wish I could pick a W next week too, but I don't see that one on the horizon...
