forget road blues, i love road whites
anytime the nits take the field on the road, you know they are going to look good. majestic, old school, the way that college football was meant to be. now if they could just play as well as they dress.
i have long had an affinity for penn state's road whites. my pennsylvania blood gets pumpin' when i see those long john looking uniforms, especially as the weather turns and we get closer to the real highlight of the fall in central pennsy...huntin' season.
with penn state firmly entrenched in a 'middle of the pack' position in the big ten, the battle with wilford brimley's purdue boilermakers will go a long way in determining if psu can elevate themselves to a very respectable third place finish in the big ten, behind the top two teams in the country. the nits have seemed to have purdue's number since joining the big ten and this is the kind of pick'em match-up that gives psu a 7-3-1 advantage against purdue.
with that in mind, there is no way the nits escape west lafayette with a win by repeating the pathetic offensive effort on display in last week's homecoming debacle against the illini. closed door, player only meetings only go so far (especially when there is only a week between games) and i don't expect the lion o-line to look like the hartings and rivera led '94 line, but they are going to have to elevate their game at least to the level of minny-ha-ha and let tony hunt do his thing (i.e. pick up more than 30 yards in a game). if morelli can resist starring receivers down and/or throwing into double coverage for less than half the game, the nits should be able to score some points against a rather pedestrian 'makers d.
poz and connor should be energized by last week's efforts and the fact that they were both named semi-finalists for the bednarik award (best defensive player in the nation. poz already has one so don't count on him winning another this year). the defense should be able to give the usual, maddening mixture of great and sloppy, uninspired play. word out of the program has a.j. wallace and lydell sargeant splitting time with tony davis at one of the corner positions, so look for a couple of badly blown coverages there (not a particular player's fault, just an organizational shortcoming).
in the end joe and the lions can not go into a 'cocoon' if they want to win a tough one on the road, getting themselves closer to a bowl birth and a respectable finish in the big ten. nits 26, boilers 20.
go state...beat the boilers!
big shout to the st. petersburg shuffleboard club

I think I had more faith in the 2003/2004 edition of this PSU offense. Can you show me a group of more talented kids in the country that gets into the endzone less.
I have low expectations. If I see the following, I will be happy.
1)No passes into the flat to DWill. Doesn't work. He hasn't made a single guy miss yet. STOP IT.
2)Fewer than 4 "whiffs" by the O Line
3)Morelli looking at more than a 3 degree cone of the field
Having said that, I don't think I get to see any more than 1 of those 3, and it will result in an ugly game.
I can't predict a loss to Purdue, my brain won't allow it, but what I will predict is an ugly game that leaves me wishing we lost.

I still have faith that the boys will make us proud.

Last weekend was reminiscent of the Mills days where I would close my eyes when the offense played and cheer like crazy for the uber-talented defense. But, last week, the defense seemed to be calling it in too. I don't know much about the good ol Boilermakers, but I am quite hopeful Penn State stop that train.

We are terrible. Could go either way; score will be 5 - 4 You Pick em
My stomach needs a rest from the upheavals that it goes through when listening to or watching a Penn State game. Seriously, I just want them to play solid for one game this year. Is that too much to ask?
I have hope that this will be that game.
In response to last week's weak start, the defense is going to come out strong right from the first play and power through the entire game.
The offense is going to have a change of mindset from the rest of this season and start thinking of themselves as winners. This will be the turn around game where they start producing touchdowns and perform consistently.

I am predicting another mostly defensive game, but I am hoping for a few more offensive connections from the nits.
